IC 434 The Horsehead Nebula
This area is part of the Orion Molecular Cloud complex and consists of dust and gases of various transparencies. The Horsehead itself is think dark gas that blocks the light from behind. It is about 1375 light years from earth. The photons captured by my camera left this object around the time the Maya were in their “classic” period, the Islamic caliphate was consolidating power in the Middle East, and the Tang Dynasty in China were expanding.
This photo was taken from a remote location in Central Texas in March of 2025. I used a Redcat61 refractor telescope, and this is the equivalent of about 13.5 hours of exposure time.
